So what’s the difference between the Atrix 4G Laptop Dock and a regular laptop? Well, there are some big differences when comparing the two types of devices. I’d say right now, the Atrix Laptop Dock is an overpriced ($500 alone) toy, albeit a VERY cool one. I’ll be getting the dock because it’s awesome, but others can find a very decent laptop for under $500.
To help you make the decision, here are the key differences when you compare the Atrix 4G Dock to a traditional laptop:
- The Atrix Laptop Dock is simply an extension of the Atrix 4G phone.
- The phone must be docked in order for the dock to work – but there’s really no boot up time.
- There is no real OS on the Dock, whereas a Laptop can use any OS or even run multiple operating systems.
- You are limited to the Atrix dual core processor and RAM. A laptop can be packed with stuff that’s far more powerful.
- There have been reports that the Android OS it is faster when the Atrix is undocked.
- Until someone hacks this, there doesn’t seam to be any multi-tasking capabilities for media, movie and music playback.
